The Student Perspective
My time with PLA has been very positive. I have learned a lot about myself and my different leadership strengths. I am very happy with my internship and I am glad that I got the opportunity to take this class.
– Brian Hopton, Business
I have been given the opportunity to be involved in activities that I would not have been exposed to otherwise. I was able to obtain an internship as a first year student, whereas most students do not have this experience until later in their college career. My internship has given me responsibility, freedom to make impacting decisions independently, public speaking skills, and great exposure to professional life and networks.
–Bianca Maron, Pre-Med/Anthropology*
*Recipient of the 2012 Provost's Leadership Academy Outstanding Intern Award
I have learned new ways of handling various situations in the work environment. My internship showed me how I can work with others that do not have the same leadership style as me.
– Allaura Levi, Communication
I would recommend PLA because not only will you meet so many new people to develop a social network, but you also gain an internship as a first year student, which is really beneficial. I would recommend that new PLA students take advantage of they are taught because in the professional field it will help so much.
–Alex Hernandez, Physiology
PLA has opened so many doors for me. Without being involved in this class, I would not have been able to be a part of the wonderful internship program. My internship has been very diverse and has given me opportunities that I never would have thought possible. I loved getting involved with the parts of the school that I never knew existed and felt like a part of the school. I would recommend PLA because it is a fantastic opportunity that gets you thinking about your future and what opportunities are out there for you.
–Catherine Khorey, Pre-Business
In PLA, because students build contacts with many different people and organizations, they leave class with new leadership skills and insight on how to further their success in the working world. I would recommend future PLA students come into class willing to participate and be ready for many hands on activities.
